About Out.Miami
Out.Miami is an independent guide to eating, drinking and going out in Miami: every restaurant, bar, club, beach and thing to do worth your time, in one searchable list, kept current and paid for by nobody.
What is on it
2,156 places across 86 Miami neighbourhoods: 1,248 restaurants, plus the bars, clubs, beaches, parks, museums, tours and everything else there is to do here. Each one has its address, its opening hours, what it costs, photographs and a map.
On top of that sit 11 written guides holding 211 places between them, 144 of them with video, and the 62 Miami restaurants in the MICHELIN Guide with the award each one holds.
How a place gets on here
Two ways, and the page always says which. Some come from our own guides, where we picked the place and wrote it up ourselves. The rest are discovered through the Google Places API against a fixed set of searches, so the list is the city rather than the places that asked to be on it.
Nobody pays to be listed. There is no advertising on this site, no sponsored placement, and no way to buy a better position. If that ever changes, the page carrying it will say so on the page.
How places are ranked
Star ratings are Google’s, shown as Google’s, and never adjusted, weighted or blended with anything of our own. Where we have an opinion it appears as a written review with our name on it, which is a different thing and is presented differently.
A discovered place has to clear a floor before it is listed at all: three stars, and at least twenty reviews, because a score drawn from four people is noise. Readers with an account can add their own reviews, and every one is read before it is published.
How current it is
Hours, prices, phone numbers and photographs are refreshed from Google on a monthly cycle, which is inside the thirty days Google’s terms allow anything to be held. Nothing here is a snapshot from three years ago, and a place reported closed is flagged rather than quietly left up.
Things still change faster than any guide can. If something here is wrong, tell us and it gets fixed.
Who makes it
Out.Miami is run by Fernando Yemail from Miami. The guides, the write-ups, the pixel artwork and the site itself are ours.
The businesses behind it
Out.Miami is one of four. Saying so matters, because two of the others sell things this guide could otherwise be caught quietly recommending.
Feeling Yachty — yacht charters, jet skis and water sports in Miami
Yachty Guide — the charter guide, by Feeling Yachty
OutMktg — the marketing and development studio that builds them
Because we run the boats, this guide does not list charter, boat rental or jet ski companies at all. Rather than rank competitors against ourselves and ask you to trust the result, we leave the category out and point at our own. Everything else on the site is ranked on Google’s numbers and our own writing, with no business of ours in the running.
It cuts the other way too. Running boats in this city is what tells us what a Miami operator charges, where they cut corners and what a good day out actually costs, and that is worth more to a guide than another round of desk research.
What we do with your details
Almost nothing. You can read the whole site without an account and without being tracked: no advertising, no analytics, no third-party trackers, and one cookie that is set only after you sign in. Photographs are fetched by our server rather than by your browser, so Google never sees your address when you look at one.
Corrections and getting in touch
Wrong hours, a closed kitchen, a listing that should not be here, or a place we have missed. A person reads every message.
